The interview of last nite!! Yesterday it was not live!! It made @ 24 may 2007!!
1. What do you think of London? Have you done any sightseeing yet?
We really like London - the whole band have been here recording and it's a great city for young people. We'd really love to come back again.
Yes, it's a bit dirty (at first they said their room isn't though!). But then again, it is a big city and all big citys are dirty... they are in Germany too.
2. What are your favourite English bands?
Our favourite English bands are um... The Beatles! Oh and Oasis and Coldplay - we saw Coldplay on the MTV awards - they were great. And... oooh, what's their name? Placebo. Are they from England? Yes... they are - they're great too.
3. For the people who haven’t seen you live yet – what can we expect from your gig at the Carling Academy?
Our shows are never planned in detail - I mean, they're not calculated... they are very spontaneous. We just get up there and have a lot of fun. During the European tour we played a mix of songs. Five or Six from the old albums and the complete new album. The shows are very loud and a lot of fun.
4. You’ve achieved a hell of a lot already… how will you celebrate your 18th birthday?
Gustav says he’s already 18 had a party with parents no big celebrations. Tom and Bill plan a big party on the 1st September.
5. Tell me a bit about where you come from in Germany? I guess you’ve put your town on the map, as they say.
We come from a small town (small and ugly – laughs) Magdeburg East Germany. We live about 100km from Berlin (they then debate about how far it is).
6. Are you still just the ‘boys from down the road’?
We’ve got our old friends, they all treat us normally. We’ve separated from a few but we think that those were people who didn’t like us while playing in clubs at the beginning of their career.
7. What do you miss most about Germany when you’re away? We miss our own beds… also our pets, our mates and our family. We have a lot more free time at home which is good because we like sleeping! After a lot time off we like to head off again.
8. Does your ‘look’ get a reaction from the grandmas of the world?
Laugh – our own grandparents have been to concerts and like it. Although… it’s a bit too loud for them. They just say “Oh, the youth of today!”
9. How do you handle all the dissing from people that don't like the band? There are jealous people, but we believe that music is something personal and emotional, you put a lot of your own feelings in it. Critics are normal and criticism is good too… it’s very important because it helps you grow and improve as a musician.
10. Some fans mentioned fantasies and the Olsen twins... we'll steer clear of that type of talk. But has a fan ever really shocked/scared you?
Laughs. One fan held up a poster at a concert that said …. (translator helps with this: “Let’s take Coke on a naked pony’. That was a bit weird. We’re getting used to that sort of stuff.
11. Tom - how do you get your trousers to stay up?
Oooh… with a belt, I have to walk a special way because even in eighties pants they fall down.
*** He then goes on to explain he wears them because ‘bits’ are too big to fit. Apparently that’s why he has to walk like a duck!
12. Gustav – are you naturally a strong/silent type or is it a musical act?
Yes, that’s just the way I am.
13. What do you like most and dislike most about your job?
The best thing is being able to play live in front of a big crowd. The worst thing is not being able to have a private life and having people see us grow up in "public".
14. Apparently you jumped out of helicopter in the English 'Monsoon' video? Scary? Would you do it again? It was so much fun! I hurt my toe! Flying above Kapstadt was special. (they said a lot more but talked sooo fast that a bit of translation help would be fantastic.)
Katie: How did your hair handle the fall Bill? My eyes were a bigger problem than my hair!
15. Will you do any more covers, like Instant Karma?
No covers… we started to play at seven and never made at that age – we’ve always played our own songs. We actually just played Instinct Karma for Amnesty International, for charity.
16. Plans to go to Australia? USA? What about open air summer concerts?
Ooh, we’d like to go to Australia, we’ve seen a lot about it on TV and the Internet. We want to go everywhere – Tokyo yep, we want to go and play all over the place.
17. For next time I go to Germany… if I want to go up to a guy/or girl and make a pass at them, what should I say?
The boys got very animated about this one!Tom: “Feed my pony” (does the hand movements to go with it). “Dancing nude on a table” was Gustav’s suggestion if I remember rightly…
18. The toothpaste question… a fan wants to know what type you use (I'm not sure why!)
Confusion… is it because of our beautiful white teeth? (Laugh)… well, we use all types – none in particular really. Whatever is in the hotel!
It was an Aussie question… The boys joke: “Gerald’s breath was could obviously be smelt all the way from Australia!”
LMFAO @ that duck thing!!

Rock One: Do you listen to Scream differently now that Room 483 has been released?
BK: Yes of course, when we listen to Scream it seems like it’s a long, long time ago…(laughter)! Can you imagine – I just turned 13 when we recorded it! TK: The songs on Scream are very important to us at the same time though as we have spent so much time performing them. We’ve adjusted them though, they’ve grown the same way as we have. That might be why we don’t feel nostalgic about them, because they’re such a part of our daily life, even today. BK: We still love our first album. We’re not the type to distance ourselves from our tracks simply because they get older with time or because our new tracks could replace them in our hearts. They really are a part of us.
Are you nostalgic about the early days?
BK: Yes of course, we have many memories about our beginnings. Remembering them is like protection against thinking you’re more than you really are. I like remembering first times - the first time we went into the studio, our first gig, our first TV appearance, our first tour in France for example. They’re always moments of extreme excitement, a feeling you don’t necessarily feel ever again. Memories like this also help us see how far we’ve come, how we’ve developed. Georg: We have a good laugh when we look at old photos from the early days. In those moments it’s quite natural to be nostalgic, but we’re having such a great time at the moment that we don’t really miss anything about the old times. TK: And when we started we were real amateurs, we didn’t know anything about a musician’s life, about rock. Like the first time at a recording studios, we were looking at it with big astonished eyes. I can remember that we thought of everything as being massive! (laughter) It’s true that we don’t feel the same way about these things anymore. Experience has brought us other joys and ways to motivate ourselves. BK: It’s also true that everything is going really fast for us, we don’t really have the time to be nostalgic. TK: Actually I am quite nostalgic about our first tour – it was amazing. It’s because of moments like those that we are where we are now and that we’re doing what we’re doing. We can’t wait to go back on tour!
Is it true that you reveal the mystery of Room 483 in one of the tracks on the album?
BK: Yes, it’s true. We don’t want to give away more than that though, it’s up to the fans to find out more. We don’t want to spoil the fun for them! Nevertheless, this room did exist and it was in this very location that we made a big step towards our new album. We’ll tell you more next time… (laughter)!
Gustav and Georg, you don’t say much during interviews. Is it fair to say that you’re shyer than the others?
GL: (laughter from the twins…) Yes, they don’t really let us say much and we have two big mouths in our band who don’t stop talking all day! No no, I’m only joking, I just simply think that we are more quiet than the others, more reserved, which is also what creates the balance and rhythm of our band. In fact, we take part, in the best possible way, in all important decisions about Tokio Hotel. I would also like to take advantage of holding the microphone to thank all of our French fans who follow us around from our arrival at the airport to the end of our gigs – it’s crazy! Thank you a million times! Gustav: I think the same as Georg! (laughter from the others)
