Christians believe in one God. But it is confusing because this God is a trinity--made up of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that the "Son", which is Jesus, was sent by God to die for our sins so that we can go to Heaven and be saved. But at the same time, he's still God, not just human. ahh, so confusing!

Firstly, God is personal, relational, and accessable. God loves all humanity more than humans can comprehend, and God is eternal. He created everything and everyone. First lets talk about Jesus. Who is he, what did he do, and why do we follow him.
Christians believe in a trinitarian God, in that He is represented by God the father, God the son, and God the holy spirit.
Next, Jesus is Christ, he is also Messiah.
Jesus is the atoning sacrifice. By this I mean that all sin results in death. In old testament times, the Jews were forgiven their sins by sacrificing animals such as lambs and doves. But these sacrifices were incomplete. Jesus satisfied the debt to sin of mankind by being the perfect sacrifice.
By acknowleging Christ's sacrifice, and his diety, a person is "saved." This means that they are no longer bound to sin, and the death sentance associated with it, and can instead stand blameless at judgement. The result of being found blameless by God is that one will spend eternity in Heaven. Heaven is a place prepared for us by God, where we can worship him forever. This place will be free of sin, and we will experience joy beyond comprehension.
The goal of a Christian is to bring glory to God and to be as much like Christ as possible.
It all depends on the customs of your culture. I wouldn't eat a dog, but I don't think that God forbade eating them. All cultures have lists of animals you can and cannot eat, and not eating dog is part of mine, but I understand that others may not think so.
Everyone wants to classify the world; it's a way of understanding it and your position in it. Many cultures, including the Western one, think that carnivores shouldn't eat one another. (It is changing as the 'in-your-face' ratings model takes over, but how often does a nature program of TV show a lion eating a cheetah or jackal? A lion will eat both if it can grab one, but the filmmakers usually edit it out.) For some cultures it is out of respect for your fellow hunter, in others it is fear that their savage qualities can be given to you by way of eating flesh. People also think that every animal has a job here on Earth, and dogs are here to be companions and do work, not be eaten. Not all christians eat pork,my family and I do not eat it. I think the rejection of pork also comes from attempts to classify animals. Most other animals with cloven hoofs eat plants and chew their cud. Pigs eat anything and don't chew cud, therefore they are unnatural, outside the order of things. Some peoples in the Pacific won't eat flightless birds because birds are supposed to fly. The list goes on.
