Hey guys, remember me? I'm too lazy to log in with my account lol.
This season is shaping up to be the worst, I agree. The cast is atrocious. Three out of the four Egyptians are boring, and Menna is memorable for all the wrong reasons. I can't tell the two Lebanese girls apart, only Zaki stands out from the Lebanese foursome. I like Soukaina, the Moroccan girl, her winning would be the only thing that'd redeem this season. The Khaleejis are bland, the Tunisians are even worse because both girls are extremely not likeable. The Jordanian guy bores me as well. The Syrian looks good but nothing special. I mean if you're gonna cast only 16 people at least form a solid roster that is not only talented but more importantly attractive and appealing. This is a reality show just as much as it is a competition show and for the first time in 9 seasons I couldn't care less about the show. I barely watch the prime and the eval but that's it. And don't get me started on the new Academy, sure it's a nice play to live in, but it's not easy on the eyes. The colors are too dark and it's not as wide as the other Academy. This time they focused on height instead of width which is pretty stupid because just looking at the academy annoys me. It looks so bulk and all over the place. I don't know what the hell Claudia's doing there to be honest. And why was Alissar's role minimized? She only appeared during the prime and didn't judge the Eval. Also, why weren't the nominees announced today? The prime is on Thursday so the nominees should be announced on Monday and the evaluation was yesterday so what the hell? I heard Hilda mention something about finding the nominees on Star ac's website. While it's nice that they're trying harder with the social media this year, let's not get too carried away, shall we? One of the highlights of Star Academy is the grueling and nerve-wrecking nomination ceremony, and they took that away as well. I'm really not feeling the show anymore. If it's not broke, why fix it? The show was perfectly compelling as it is, with minor glitches revolving mainly around Rula Saad's credibility as a fair head of the academy, but to change the show so drastically that we barely recognize it? They should expect it to tank, and hard.

I can't judge this season yet. To me, it has the potential to go either way.
But I definitely was so disgusted by the last one that I had to stop watching. There's drama, and then there's what happened in Season 8, which was all-out disrespect, backstabbing, and borderline hate from the contestants, which was toxic to watch. Except for a small handful who behaved like decent human beings, you couldn't trust what any of them said or did; they turned on each other several times a day! Sarah alone did the unforgivable when she outed Kareem on international television. Christine and Gilbert thought they were the only ones in the world who spoke English and were so proud of themselves when they sat around totally trashing people. Oumayma changed her alliances every 5 minutes. Efram made up entire backstabbing stories about Rafe3. And so on. It was really too negative to watch.
Of course it turned into Anything-Goes Academy years ago. Remember in the early seasons when they would get in trouble for messy rooms? Or nominated for forgetting a word in their prime song? In the last few seasons, it got to a point where anyone could say or do anything, and there were no consequences. Look, I'm not saying treat them like 4-year-olds, but to encourage, even reward, bad behavior, is not something I find worth watching. So I'm hoping that this new production team dials back the nonsense a bit.

rush, I have a feeling we'll get along really well throughout this season ! @guest80, although I agree that Season 8 was so dramatic and explosive, I was hooked to every episode because of that. I mean, I don't condone their behaviors at all. Sarah was the biggest bully in the history of Star Academy and bulldozed her way to the finals while making everyone her enemy along the way. Oumayma, as you mentioned, was so wishy-washy and formed alliances with everyone (except for Christine, lmao). Layane, on the other hand, broke her alliances everytime there was a vote. Efrem was a snake, Nina was so d**n annoying and overly dramatic. Christine did have a holier than thou attitude, and it cost when because she was almost unanimously evicted against Layane when she was ten times more talented than Layane. With ALL that being said, that season was fun, compelling, and it had a poetic ending when the classy Nesma beat Sarah & the very undeserving Ahmad in the end. This season's cast are so boring. They try too hard in front of the camera. They don't show their unique personalities. They just seem so un-interested and so bored already. I'm not saying the cast should be repulsively cut-throat like last season's cast, but I'd still choose them over this season's sleepers any day. My favorite rosters are those of Season 3, Season 4 and Season 7. They were a funny bunch of people. Granted, they fought a lot sometimes, but it wasn't based on hatred, and it was like seeing a family fight, fun to watch but not ill-intended. They were also the most charismatic rosters in my opinion. Enough about past seasons though, I'm still gonna give this season a chance, but 5 days into the season I'd probably already have my favorites and would've memorized every contestant. The only person I am rooting for is Soukayna right now. And I still can't tell Maria and Maritta apart. Speaking of Maria, why was she nominated again? Granted she's not great, but weren't Lilia and Taher criticized a lot more during the evaluation? My predictions are: Issa gets highest % of public votes (Khaleeji votes, duh), I don't think the Egyptians will be as strong in the voting this year, but Menna will probably score the 2nd highest % and Maria 3rd. Then the contestants will vote to keep Maria. I think Menna is too polarizing and has turned people off. I think the Lebanese, Jordanian, and Syrian will go with Maria just for geographical purposes, and I can see Abdallah voting Maria as well. Maysa doesn't like Menna so if the Morrocan/Tunisian block decide to keep Maria as well, Menna's gone. You never know what would happen though. Menna can still beat Maria by a nose if the students keep forcing ties and the deciding vote goes to Menna. She might pull an upset and beat Issa in the audience votes, and then Maria's toast. Her only chance is against Menna. How funny would it be if Maria won audience's votes? Lmao, that's not even a serious possibility. Us Lebanese are always shafted in those votes.

"And I still can't tell Maria and Maritta apart." Hahaha! Same here.
People like Menna don't last long. Both her colleagues in the house and viewers can't really stand the constant crying and breakdowns, Amal Lambari style.
I would say I like a happy medium of drama, and I think your description of a "family fight" is right on. When it's friends arguing (I remember Ahmad and Bashar fighting over a missing cigarette in Season 1) it's not uncomfortable to watch, just normal human interaction which I find quite interesting. But when it's hateful or borderline violent fights, it's a real turn-off. For me, anyway.
