At the midst of the grave political situation in our beloved country, Lebanon, I am striving to put in writing the article that had been in my mind for a while; But in vain. All my efforts to write one complete sentence is to no avail. Believe you me, I am not having writer’s block, for the proof of that I am able to write those lines; I am just unable to mull over sports when Lebanon is undergoing the current unstable situation. I feel my mind is paralyzed. Discussing about sports seems very trivial in regards to the loss of lives and the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri.
Libansport does not inscribe about politics. This is a fact. Libansport is a sports web-portal. From this perspective, I wish to honor the man, from my part, who, among others, promoted the field of sports in Lebanon.
While we, at Libansport, endorse sports of all kinds and endeavor to bring in the latest news and reports; it is of our duty to convey in brief what Lebanon’s recent martyr has contributed to this field.
It goes without saying that the loss of PM Hariri is indescribable. He was our link to the outside world. He was the base to Lebanese leagues, clubs, and teams. He brought about various international, regional and national tournaments and championships. From structural to procedural courses of action he encouraged the role of basketball in Lebanon and in the region. Football, also, acknowledged its special boost, especially with the attainment of the Asian Cup in 2000 that brought about a great accomplishment in the Lebanese history of sports.
He was a man who grasped the importance of sports in Lebanon. This is why he will remain the token of giving, of donation, of charity and of a dream. In sports, the dream to see Lebanon in the international scene, participating and challenging the world with all its capabilities.
