Internazionale 0 Bayern 2 Pizarro and Podolski slay nine-man Inter
27.09.2006 Bayern took charge of Champions League Group B with a thoroughly deserved victory over limp and indisciplined Internazionale in Milan.
A 60,000 crowd at the ever-impressive Giuseppe Meazza stadium saw the visitors settle much the quicker of two cautious teams and dominate first half possession.
Roy Makaay was unlucky to see his cross-shot turned aside by home keeper Julio Cesar, although Oliver Kahn had earlier made a sharp save to thwart Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Munich captain brilliantly denied Hernan Crespo after the restart, but it was an isolated blemish in an otherwise dominant second half performance by the visitors, crowned when Pizarro bundled Makaay's chipped pass over the line with nine minutes remaining.
Referee Steve Bennett had already sent off Ibrahimovic, and Fabio Grosso joined his team mate in the dressing room for an elbow against Willy Sagnol as the Italians' suspect discipline crumbled to dust.
Sub Lukas Podolski added the icing on the cake with a solo effort in stoppage time as Bayern stormed to the top of the Group B standings with maximum points from their first two games.
One change for Magath
Bayern started with the muscle and experience of Hasan Salihamidzic in place of Roque Santa Cruz' more mercurial talents, as Felix Magath otherwise kept faith with the team which won 2-1 at home to Aachen on Saturday.
That meant youth product Andreas Ottl continued in the holding role ahead of Argentine enforcer Martin Demichelis, although both men must be regarded as keeping the position warm while Owen Hargreaves recovers from his broken leg.
Inter boss Roberto Mancini made three changes to the side which beat Chievo Verona by the odd goal in seven at the weekend, restoring Marco Materazzi, Ibrahimovic and Maicon for Solari, Adriano and Walter Samuel, a late withdrawal with illness. Patrick Vieira (suspension) and Esteban Cambiasso (injury) were unavailable for selection.
Reds in charge
Bayern opened brightly, effortlessly switching flanks and retaining possession in the acres of space afforded them by the visibly nervous home side.
Makaay drove over after a fine early passing move, although the Bavarians were almost caught cold on 12 minutes when Ibrahimovic sprang the offside trap and raced clear.
Reds skipper Kahn courageously spread himself to deny the Swede, and that was that for Inter as an attacking force before half-time.

The impressive Ottl tried his luck from distance midway through the half, before releasing Makaay down the inside left channel in the next move. The Dutch ace unleashed a left-foot drive across goal, but Julio Cesar threw out a leg and the chance was gone.
The game entered a scrappy phase now and the action until half-time centred on referee Steve Bennett, the English match official handing out three bookings as his patience at a string of niggly fouls finally came to an end.
The pattern of the match remained unchanged after the restart as the visitors continued to boss the play and batter away at the Inter goal.
Claudio Pizarro was inches away from connecting with Philipp Lahm's cross, Mark van Bommel slid a shot wide, Bastian Schweinsteiger landed a free-kick in Julio Cesar's arms, and van Bommel shaved the upright with a curler, all before the hour was up.
Ibrahimovic off
Inter's poor night took another turn for the worse when Ibrahimovic earned himself a second yellow card and an early shower for a studs-up assault on Schweinsteiger after 59 minutes.
But the Italians were stung into action and the biggest chance of the night so far fell to Hernan Crespo on 61 minutes. The Argentine striker blasted goalwards from point-blank range, only for Kahn to pull off a stunning reaction save.
Makaay might have done better with a clear sight of goal after Cordoba's poor clearing header two minutes later, but suddenly it was Inter's turn to threaten as the ten men dug deep into their reserves of energy.
Glorious finale
Magath sent on Mehmet Scholl for Salihamidzic with twenty minutes remaining, although the creative veteran's first contribution was a crunching foul on Fabio Grosso and a yellow card.
Pizarro flashed a header across goal from a corner with ten minutes left, but went one better a minute later, bundling the ball over the line after Makaay's intelligent lobbed pass to send the travelling support into raptures.
Inter's woes looked complete when Grosso saw a straight red card for using the elbow against Sagnol, and sub Lukas Podolski might have settled the issue with his first touch only to fire high and wide.
The visitors survived a scare or two before Podolski latched onto Cordoba's suicidal back-pass to settle matters once and for all.
