Carlos wants Madrid stay
Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos has stated his desire to stay at the Bernabeu and rediscover his best form. The Brazilian international is yet to extend his contract, which expires next summer, though raised the possibility of talks with the club in December.
"I want to finish my career here, but not next year. I want to play two or three more seasons, but we'll see how things go until December and maybe agree a new deal, because as yet I haven't signed an extension."
He claimed the question marks surrounding his contract didn't worry him, and that he was "happy and calm" in Madrid, while delivering a broadside at those who had accused him of trying to get as much money out of the club as possible:
"People who talk about the money issue, that I want money, are people from other teams, not madridistas. They're from elsewhere and their comments don't bother me," he said.
"I had good offers from Chelsea and Fenerbahce, but the problem is not money. I feel at home here and I hope the people that don't like me will come round to liking me again. I am thankful [to Fenerbahce and Chelsea] for their interest because it means that even at the age of 33 there are still teams that want me, but I'd like to stay here."
Roberto Carlos also brushed off suggestions he could return to the Brazilian national team, revealing "the decision had already been made before the World Cup. I received unjustified criticism [for retiring] in Brazil. I played for the seleçao for fifteen years, I missed sixteen games and I won the World Cup. I am very happy. Now that is over and I'm only thinking about Real Madrid."
