I just wanted to give a shout out to my Lebanese peeps because honestly, we have gone through so much sh*t and look at us! We endured a war that destroyed our country, there's like 45% unemployment, 3/4 of downtown is shut down, we've got thousands of people chanting outside of the government threatening to collapse it and yelling "death to america", we've got crazy politicians and leaders of terrorist organizations releasing ridiculous statements....and yet, through all of this, we manage to LIVE.
Maybe we are not "The Paris of the Middle East" anymore. Maybe our politicians suck and our president is a puppet. But we sure as hell know how to go on, live our lives, and not let anything faze us. Half an hour away from LBC studios in Adma are people camping and trying to make our leaders fall. And somehow we manage to turn a new leaf, show the best of what we've got, and put on a show for all other countries to see and think, "Wow. Look at what they can do."
For the first time in watching Star Academy, I realized something more important than whose the hottest contestant (even though its clearly Imad) or whose got the best voice. I looked at the set decorations, the dancers, the choreography, the teachers who drove from their homes to be there tonight, the students who left their families to make our humble country their home...and I was proud. I was so proud. We are a people that will never die, not matter how many countries want to take our teeny 10452km2 land, no matter how many evil rulers want to put their laws on us, no matter how many armies bomb the hell out of us...we overcome and like the pheonix, we rise from the ashes, shake off the dust, and move on.
