Such cultured open people wallah! Thanks, it's funny people love and hate us for the same reason. ;D Yes, Oran is located at the northwest region part of Algeria. It is called 'Wahran' in Arabic which stands for 'two lions', and you're right it has more than one spelling. There are many great figures of Wahran music, but I have a special preference for older ones including Ahmad Tidjani, I know I'm an old school.  He is half Algerian on father's side, half French -though originally Italian- on his mother's side. His songs contain deep criticism and are more politically profound than people think. He witnessed the massive wave of artists and people he liked to call 'shtara' emigrating Algeria, he too had no choice but to leave his country and he went off to fight in WWII. That's basically what the song 'Wahran' is about.
