I understand what you mean exactly. I don't know much about Gebran but obviously he was someone respected and appreciated... but that is not the point. When someone of his caliber is murdered, it's the values he represents that are targeted. Also, the fact that he was so known puts a human face on the tragedy. His murder is obviously an attempt to confuse and instill fear in people. This reminds me of how in the nineties terrorists in Algeria used to kill anyone who didn't agree with them and even their own allies. A great Algerian journalist and author named Tahar Djaout said: ''Si tu te tais, tu meurs. Si tu parles,tu meurs. Alors, parle et meurs!" If you keep quiet, you die. If you speak, you die. So speak and die." Sadly, he was murdered shortly after he said that. May God bless the souls of Gebran Tweiny, Tahar Djaout and all victims of injustice. Excuse the long post but i felt like saying this. Yes Intika, you understand exactly. If you are following up on all of these bombings you will quickly realize what they are intending to do by these killings. They are targeting the faces of resistance, those who use the power of the pen and of speech to cause change. There are many many people (including from my own family) who disagreed with Tueni's politics...but everyone can agree on the impact he's had and everyone can respect him for standing up in a nonviolent way. There is definitely a pattern in all these assassinations. All of the victims were outspoken and wanted something different for Lebanon. The spectacular and super violent methods of these killings (car bombs) are also very telling. Basically, scare people into silence. One thing is for sure, they will not succeed...

he is human being and he will die thats right, but not in this waaay. Do u want Lebanese people to see each other dying in this way and stay silent without saying anything and the killers did that more than once too.....and who did that shlould be punished who ever he is, but the point is that if the killers are Syrians, only the killers should be punished not all the Syrian people.. and we should think who is getting benefits out of that...in my opinion ...Syria is not getting any benefits out of that instead all the world in this way will be against Syria and the biggest benefits are for Israel ....any way the truth will appear some day memi, I agree with what you said. Thank you for making such calm and well reasoned comments. Hind, i love your avatar! The one that says : ''Boycott Israel.''

UNITED NATIONS - Syria's ambassador to the United Nations, Fayssal Mekdad, likened slain Lebanese legislator Gibran Tueni to a dog yesterday ............. "So now every time that a dog dies in Beirut there will be an international investigation?" Mr. Mekdad said to an Arab diplomat during a closed-door council session, according to a diplomat who heard the conversation but asked to remain anonymous.........

We aren't just blaming the Syrian people, if that's what you are saying. We just want peace for our country, and we want all international forces out of lebanon so that true lebanese can lead their own country. We have people in the Lebanese government that are traitors, and the Syrian people and Lebanese people are very close in culture so we have nothing against the Syrian people at all, bas its certain people in both the Syrian side and our side that need to be brought to justice and who did that shlould be punished who ever he is, but the point is that if the killers are Syrians, only the killers should be punished not all the Syrian people.. totally agree
